Accepting, refusing and returning donations: New guidance from The Charity Commission

The Charity Commission has published guidance on Accepting, refusing and returning donations to your charity.

There can be occasions when, by law, trustees must refuse or return a donation. In other circumstances, trustees may decide it is in their charity’s best interest to do so. These decisions are often significant for a charity, and trustees must always carefully balance all factors that are relevant to their charity’s circumstances. In a parish context, this generally means that members of the PCC, as trustees, will need to consider and decide on the appropriate response to a donation if the need should arise.

You should take advice if you are unsure about your powers to accept, refuse or return a donation.
