Serious Incident Reporting: Updated Guidance

All PCCs are charities and their trustees are required to report any Serious Incidents, both safeguarding and non-safeguarding, to the Charity Commission.

On 1 January 2019 the Church launched bespoke guidance, approved by the Charity Commission, to support PCCs to identify and report Serious Incidents

This guidance requires PCCs to submit their own reports to the Charity Commission for non-safeguarding Serious Incidents and to report safeguarding Serious Incidents through their DBF.

On 14 June 2019, the Charity Commission updated its guidance to require all individual Serious Incident reports to be submitted to it using a new online form, which can be accessed at

Therefore, the Church of England has updated its guidance to reflect the Charity Commission’s changes on how PCCs report non-safeguarding serious incidents to the Charity Commission. This updated guidance has been approved by the Charity Commission and is available on the Serious Incident Reporting page of the Parish Resources website
